Chamber of Commerce endorsement widens divide on Sotomayor

WASHINGTON — The split in the Republican base over Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor grew wider Thursday, with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce endorsing her confirmation while the National Rifle Association amped up pressure for senators to vote no.

The chamber, which frequently files friend-of-the-court briefs supporting business interests against labor or consumer litigants, cited Sotomayor’s private practice representing companies in trademark and contracts matters.
